TSB wants safer rules for Cessna 208 cargo planes

WINNIPEG — The Transportation Safety Board is renewing its call for all Cessna 208 cargo planes to be grounded in anything but light icing conditions after ice was identified as the main cause of a fatal crash near downtown Winnipeg last fall.

Fears about O'Hare's Essential Safety Systems

Thanks to some quick reaction by an alert controller and a pilot, O'Hare International passengers narrowly averted disaster thrice in one week. This recent surge in dangerous runway incursions at O’Hare comes as no surprise, but it does not make the situation any less alarming. These and the many similar incidents are a threat to you, me, our families and the rest of the flying public. Especially with the ongoing construction at O’Hare, action needs to be taken now to incorporate available technology to prevent these incursions and the otherwise inevitable disaster.

Suit claims plane flawed in '04 crash

Brian Templeton was born to fly, his mother says, and at the age of 3 or 4, he was already talking about becoming a pilot.

Templeton's dream turned into a nightmare on March 25, 2004, when his twin-engine cargo plane crashed in a Pittsfield field. He was killed on impact, and a subsequent federal investigation found that the aircraft had plummeted 12,000 feet in less than a minute.

Kin of flight 541 victims win case vs plane suppliers

RELATIVES of the victims of Air Philippines Flight 541 that crashed in April 2000 scored another victory in their case against American companies AAR and Fleet after the Illinois Supreme Court denied the defendants' request to appeal an earlier decision to have the case tried in Chicago.

AAR and Fleet are the suppliers of ill-fated plane to Air Philippines.

The Circuit Court of Cook County, where the case was filed by Chicago-based Nolan Law Group on behalf of the victims' families, earlier ruled against the defendants' argument that the case should be tried in the Philippines. This decision was later affirmed by the Appeals Court.
